A few days in a boutique hotel in Mallorca may sound like heaven: Sun kissed days on the beach and long afternoon siestas, followed by sumptious dinners on the seafront...you could do this forever.
Or could you?
Some may tire of this winning combo and covet more active and exciting holidays.
Luckily, Mallorca has much more to offer. More than you can begin to imagine.
Here are a few of the myriad activities in Mallorca, things you can try near our boutique hotel in Puerto Pollensa.
One of the healthiest and most pleasurable activities in Mallorca, at any time of year, is walking. And from our boutique hotel in Puerto Pollensa you are so well positioned, you can literally walk out the front door and set off on a multitude of walking tours around the north of the island, which is, incidentally, the best place to go walking in Mallorca anyway.
One of the first walking activities to try is the Boquer hike, over the ridge to the other side of the island. It looks longer and more dramatic than it is. In fact most able bodied people can easily undertake it.
Cala Boquer is the little beach you get to at the end of the walk, once you cross the Valley of Boquer. It is no more than an hour there and back, walking along a well trodden path, in a landcape of pine forests in Puerto Pollensa's most virgin landscape. You are likely to come across quite a few goats and a whole variety of birds.
If this all sounds a bit too extreme for you, you can start with the simplest and most lovely walk of all; walking along the seafront, along the Bay of Pollensa.
And for those who are looking for walking activities in Mallorca that will make your legs burn and take you to the most remote corners of the island, then you will just have to head towards Pollensa, and then on to Lluc, to immerse yourself in the Mountain landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana.
The GR221 walk loosely follows the dry stone way which crosses the entire range from northeast to southwest, covering over 100 miles of deep forest and rock.
Although we would obviously like you to stay at our boutique hotel in Puerto Pollensa for the duration of your stay, if you are looking for some really remote hiking or trekking activities in Mallorca you may enjoy staying at one of the mountain refuges in the Tramuntana.
Booking a night in the refuges is not something you can leave to the last minute however. You will need to reserve a place months in advance. For direct access to the regional Mallorca Consell refuge association page, follow this link: Mallorca Mountain Refuges.

As activities in Mallorca go, cycling is one of the most popular activities on the island and is growing by the year. Proof enough are the pro cycle teams that take to the mountain climbs and blackroads in the low season to test, train and get in shape for the season's big sportives. But it is also shared by a whole community of keen cyclists of every level, looking for more than your usual holiday in Mallorca.
Cycle tours, training camps, bike hire and cycle transfers have been popping up all over the island offering customised, high end services, sports hotels specialise in top end facilities and the smaller boutique style hotels offer a more personalised and low key offer in comfortable cycling accommodation for those cyclists looking for a biking holiday on their own terms.
As a good starting point to any self respecting cycling activities in Mallorca, start at Bar Tolo's in Puerto Pollensa, where the owner welcomes cycling clubs and individual cyclists for pre training breakfasts, nutritious lunches and best of all, post cycling drinks on the large sea facing terrace on the beach. There is plenty of room to park bikes and meet fellow cyclists as well as being a popular meeting point for group rides.
Health and relaxation don't come in a more complete parcel than with the ancient practice of yoga and this is an activity you can easily do in Mallorca, individually or as part of a group. If you have never tried but have always wanted to this is a great chance for you to start.
Yoga activities in Mallorca come in a whole variety of forms : SUP yoga, ACRO yoga, KUNDALINI yoga, pre natal and post natal yoga, HATHA, VINYASA or ASHTANGA yoga are just a few of the millenial variations of yoga and each one can help you in different ways.
Being on holiday is a great moment to start practicing yoga, or if you do already, then there is certainly no need to stop. As one of the activities in Mallorca most asked for by our hotel guests, yoga teachers can be booked to come to the hotel or you can join classes elsewhere.
Local yoga centres and private yoga instructions abound, some giving yoga lessons on the beach, and can be booked individually or you can join a class.
In much the same way as with yoga, you can book your activities in Mallorca with a personal fitness instructor during your stay. This is not as crazy as it may sound. Prices vary but if you are staying with us at Hotel Mar Calma you have nearby gyms, sport centres, the beach and the entire frontline at your disposal for a thorough holiday workout.
Golf is no longer the realm of tired oldies, but a trendy and exciting outdoor activity with a big wallup of luxury thrown in. Never more so than if you are playing the game in the sumptious surroundings of the Mallorca countryside, with a club bar on the hilltop, serving chilled after game drinks and delicious snacks in the early evening sunshine in the north of Mallorca.
Hotel Mar Calma is in Puerto Pollensa, a coastal resort 6 km from Pollensa Old Town and Pollensa Golf and 6 km from Alcudia and Alcanada Golf, both of which are superb golf clubs with exciting greens and great facilities for golfing activities in Mallorca.
Pollensa Golf is an 9 hole course just outside Pollensa on the road to Palma with a fabulously set bar with pool and exquisite far reaching views over the valley to the Bay of Pollensa.
Club de Golf Alcanada is an 18 hole course designed in 2003 by the renowned golf green designer Robert Trent Jones Jr. on a 6499 m piece of land overlooking the Bay of Alcudia, voted the best course in Europe in 2012 by leading German magazine Golf Journal for the fourth consecutive year.

Local adventure company Mon Aventura, in Pollensa, specialises in adventure activities in Mallorca and their team of highly trained and fearless instructors will gladly take you up the fiercest rockfaces and down the most tricky sea boulders. They supply all the equipment needed and provide the logistical know-how to offer exciting and adventurous activities in Mallorca of all kinds : water sports, trekking, rock climbing...off the beaten track, scuba diving and kayaking in the hidden corners of the north coast, caving both on land and at sea. Some of their adventure activities in Mallorca are organised for groups but can be just as easily be booked privately.
Going it alone and designing your own adventure activity is ok too, if you have the experience and the kit, but do come well prepared and research thoroughly, especially if you are planning solo climbing or scuba diving. It isn't as tame out there as it looks.
Mallorca boasts some fantastic birding locations, primarily concentrated around the Puerto Pollensa area and all easily accessed from our hotel in Puerto Pollensa.
The Boquer Valley and Formentor Peninsula on the far northern coast of the island, a 15 minutes drive from the centre of town, are an exquisite birdwatching paradise, protected as Natural Heritage by the UNESCO and home to some of the island's most interesting bird species.
To the south of Puerto Pollensa, a short walk from the hotel, there are a series of wetlands and marshes, S'Albufereta and S'Albufera, which stretch down the coast between Puerto Pollensa and Alcudia, providing a unique environment for a marvellous array of birds and superb starting point for your birding activities in Mallorca.
And towards the west, there is the base for most activities in Mallorca and possibly the most fascinating birdwatching locations of all, the magnificent Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, home to Mallorca's iconic Black Vulture. Ornithological Tourism Centre La Gola.
Hotel Mar Calma is a 5 minute walk from the Puerto Pollensa Yacht Club where you can charter sailing and motor yachts, and take personal sailing classes in the magnificent Bay of Pollensa. Simply ask at the reception and you will be given all the information available on local crewed boat charter companies, boat hire and private sailing lessons in the area.
Sailing in Mallorca is a way of seeing the island in a whole different way, from the sea and being able to reach the most virgin and secluded beaches. When the summer season is in full swing there is possibly nothing quite as lovely as getting away from the crowds out in the Bay of Pollensa, or cruising along the jagged coastline of the north of the island.
Horseriding is exciting, fullfilling and apt for all ages and best of all, you don't need to have any previous experience, as the horses are calm and well cared for.
There are several riding schools offering horseback riding lessons and activities in Mallorca with horses, but the one we suggest is a small local horse farm in Sa Pobla with a belif in natural horse care. Their horses are all barefoot and bitless and are only taken on rides in natural surroundings.
At Hipica Formentor you can opt for anything from an hour walk along the Albufera wetland to a three day hike across the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains. They also offer parties, medieval games and tapas tours.
